NEi Nastran for Pro/ENGINEER

NEi Nastran for Pro/Engineer Pro E PRo Engineer

PTC PartnerAdvantage Silver

NEi Nastran provides a seamless integration with Pro/ENGINEER through the “FEM Mode” of Pro/ENGINEER's Advanced Structural package. Using this mode designers can access the advanced simulation capabilities of NEi Nastran such as metal plasticity, surface contact, nonlinear buckling and postbuckling, transient dynamics, shock, etc. The user does not have to leave the familiar Pro/ENGINEER environment. Both the preparation of the finite element model and the postprocessing of the results can be performed inside of Pro/ENGINEER.

Customer Feedback

"I've recently started to use Pro/MECHANICA (FEM mode) as a preprocessor for NEi Nastran and it has been working out great. It is a huge time saver for me. I've used it on three good sized jobs in the last week. For example, one job would have taken me a half a day to incorporate geometry changes with my other pre-processor. However, it only took me about 10 minutes in FEM mode. On another job, I was spending a lot of time getting a congruent mesh on a fairly complicated mid-plane model. With FEM mode, the time was reduced to minutes.”

Typical Workflow

  • Pro Engineer Nastran

Figure 3: Postprocessing the analysis results within the NEi Nastran Editor
The Pro/ENGINEER FEM mode is used to create the h-element mesh and boundary conditions (Figure 1).
  • The Nastran input file is then created and the analysis is setup using the NEi Nastran Editor. The input file can be manipulated using the Editor (e.g., setting up advanced analysis parameters).
  • The analysis is then run.
  • Postprocess the results (.XDB) using the Pro/ENGINEER FEM post-processing environment (Figure 2).
  • Alternatively, the powerful NEi Nastran Editor may be used for the postprocessing (Figure 3).

User benefits include:

  • True surface contact using ASCG™
  • Material nonlinearities such as metal plasticity
  • Advanced failure criteria on laminated composites
  • Extremely fast sparse solver such as PCGLSS supported on all the solution modules
  • Easy access to NEi Nastran FEA technology
  • No need to learn finite element specific pre-postprocessing software
  • No CAD conversion issues
  • Ability to provide industry-standard Nastran models and results to design partners, customers, and vendors
